Sustainability Festival Tanzania is bigger, bolder, and more urgent than ever a high-voltage showcase of ideas and action driving sustainability across Tanzania. As our nation faces the hard truths of a rapidly warming world, it’s the perfect time to challenge old ways and dive into sustainable living with full force.

Sustainability Festival Tanzania is not just an event, it is a movement of change-makers. Its mission is simple: accelerate the uptake of sustainability and address the global climate and biodiversity emergencies.

As climate change continues to threaten the security and well-being of people and the planet, the action we take this decade is set to define the fate of our future. To achieve a safe climate we will need to decarbonise as fast as humanly possible. This is the decade to rapidly shift to a zero-emissions Tanzania. With over 30,000 visits , the event is the largest sustainability festival in Tanzania and not just in numbers, but also in impact. By showcasing cutting-edge solutions to ecological and social challenges, the Festival fosters and provides tools for the change we want to see and the difference we want to make in the world

SFT not only talks about sustainability: it is sustainability.

The Festival is a leader in “walking the talk”, adopting progressive management practices that address the environmental and social impact of events. The organising team has developed a sustainable event framework that monitors and reduces the social and ecological footprint.

Here’s what the framework covers:

Energy
GreenPower is used across the whole site; solar power instalments for audio-visual systems at key venues; water heating at the Wash Against Waste trailer.

Water
Reduction measures such as the provision of composting toilet facilities; drinking water stations located throughout the site; grey water filtration system in the Wash Against Waste trailer.

Waste
Implementation of a Waste Wise Plan and Waste Stations; drinking water stations reduce the need to purchase bottled water and reduce plastic waste.

Transport
Visitors are encouraged to walk, bike or catch public transport. Access events by train, tram, and bike.

Procurement
Event Volunteer t-shirts are made from 100% organic cotton and manufactured in sweatshop-free conditions; all food and beverage vendors are screened to ensure their offerings are as sustainable as possible; catering is completely vegetarian and/or vegan with a focus on organic and local produce
